Food Entertaining Mag
Some can read for hours, others can't stay focused on an US Weekly mag. How can I increase concentration?

My strengths lie in academia - I thrive as a student and live in the realm of ideas. Yet, since I've taken my studies seriously, I've struggled to stay focused on textbooks and novels. After reading for a few minutes, I start yawning, my concentration strays and the words on the page begin to lose their meaning. My semesters have been maddening and frustrating because of this. I'm willing to devote the hours yet my mind can't seem to stay with the material. It's to the extent that I'm willing to take an antidepressant (most claim to heighten concentration). I'm a believer in taking medicine when it's truly necessary. My career is at stake here so I'm entertaining options. Are there any other ways to stay focused? It sounds like a loopy question (I can see people reacting, "Just discipline yourself!") yet to me it's a vital question for my well-being. I'll entertain methods from meditation (it has never worked for me) to certain foods. Any advice would TRULY be appreciated.

structured education isn't necessarily for everyone maybe you cant stay focussed because a structured environment suffocates your creativity maybe you feel the material is genuinely boring
maybe the path you are taking though it may seem like the right one is keeping you from your full potential
if you are contemplating taking medicine to stay on task that should be a red flag that there is something negative going on
if you cant relate to what Im saying then my only advise would be to change the way you study possibly find audio versions of your books or read with others that have the same curriculum
